Aero1 was the first aircraft that we built between early 2015 until mid 2016. It is based on a Silence Twister that we heavily modified by integrating an electric propulsion system. Within 6 months we performed a flight test campaign accumulating 50 hours of flight time. We flew up to 8 flights per day, reaching altitudes up to 13'000 ft. We performed test flights in temperatures up to +30° C and down to –10° C. The aircraft has the power of an Extra 200 at 10% of the cost per flight hour.
We were among the first to prove the real-world viability of electric flight, and to learn about the performance of batteries in one of the most demanding applications: aerobatic flight.
Currently we are updating the entire aircraft, we will call it Aero1 NG for "Next Generation". The aim is to have a flying testbed readily at hand to test the latest technologies Dufour Aerospace is developing, such as flight computers, battery packs, and telemetry systems, all in real flight conditions and not only in the laboratory or in test settings.
Furthermore, we think it is important that our engineers not only watch electric planes taking off, but also get as much experience as possible in the pilot's seat themselves. Hence Aero1 NG will be flown and tested regularly by all our licensed pilots in the team.
