Zurich, September 14, 2023: Dufour Aerospace is pleased to announce that the German electric propulsion system manufacturer Plettenberg has been selected as a supplier for the tail thruster propulsion unit of the uncrewed tilt-wing aircraft Aero2.
Simon Bendrey, Head of Design of Dufour Aerospace, says: “Plettenberg offer a compact, high torque, electric motor which is perfect for the tail propeller on Aero 2. They couple this with a light weight and thermally efficient ESC which packages nicely in the aircraft. Plettenberg have modified the motor unit to provide the system redundancy required for continued safe flight of the aircraft. Dufour Aerospace is pleased to announce this partnership and we look forward to seeing their products in flight!”
Bastian Greiner, CEO and Managing Partner of Plettenberg, added: “With our triple redundant NOVA 15 LW motor, including three ESCs, with no single point of failure, we significantly enhance the safety of Aero2. The motor has been tailored to the mission profile of Dufour Aerospace and sets a new standard in the trade-off of performance versus robustness versus weight. We are seeing increased focus on robustness and redundancy in uncrewed system applications as the industry moves towards certification. Dufour Aerospace is leading the way towards building a type-certified UAV and we are very pleased to have been selected as their partner.”
About Plettenberg
Plettenberg is a leading developer and manufacturer of tailored electric propulsion systems for the uncrewed systems market. Plettenberg’s mission is building the most rugged but at the same time lightest propulsion systems on the market. As part of the customization phase, BLDC motors, such as the NOVA 15 LW, will be tailored to the mission profile of the customer. The motor is then combined with an ESC as well as propeller, to deliver a system solution, which ideally matches the customers’ requirements. Next to propulsion systems, Plettenberg also provides starter-generator solutions as well as mission-critical accessories. All Plettenberg products are developed and manufactured in Germany under a strict quality system which is ISO 9001 certified.

About Dufour Aerospace
Dufour Aerospace develops efficient and ecological aircraft for patient and passenger transport, logistics and public safety. Dufour Aerospace’s designs currently under development rely on the tilt-wing principle. They take-off and land vertically in the smallest space like a helicopter but fly as fast and economically as an airplane. While the propellers are electric-driven, hybrid elements (conventional combustion engines or fuel cells) ensure a sufficiently long range. The first product Dufour Aerospace will launch is the Aero2, an uncrewed aerial vehicle specifically designed for the transportation of critical cargo such as medical supplies of up to 40 kilograms/88 pounds in medium to long range distances. The manned Aero3, featuring a spacious cabin with eight seats and large doors, is the next aircraft in development by Dufour Aerospace.
